Solar-Powered Lighting Bollards Options
With Reliance Foundry’s catalogue of options, solar-powered lighting bollards can be optimized for use in a wide variety of applications.
Reliance Foundry offers several lighting system options for its line of solar light bollards. Lighting color (warmth), lighting distribution (direction) and the lighting program (schedule) will all affect the site’s safety, security and overall aesthetics. Choosing the correct lighting options will optimize a lighting bollard’s effectiveness in any given application. The following information contains an explanation the terms used to describe bollard lighting options. When choosing a lighting system for your lighting bollard, consider:
Lighting Color (also referred to as 'Lighting Color Temperature' or 'Lighting Warmth')
Lighting color is a measure of the level of pure white, yellow, red and blue (color) there is in a specific light. It is measured in Degrees Kelvin. Different ratios of these colors will affect the warmth and brightness of the light.
Reliance Foundry offers three lighting color options, presented in order of consumer preference:
-
4300K
Sometimes called “neutral white” the 4300K light emits light that is warm and primarily white in color. 4300k lights are the most commonly used lights in outdoor architectural and commercial applications. Reliance Foundry’s 4300K lighting option emits light that is comparable with that which is provided by lighting sources in many parking lots and warehouse environments. The 4300K light is recommended for use in applications where lighting bollards are used to illuminate walkways.
-
3000K
The 3000k light, often referred to as “warm white”, emits a neutral temperature light that is yellow in color. Reliance Foundry’s 3000K light emits light that is similar to that which is emitted from halogen lamps, incandescent bulbs and lighting used in retail applications. 3000K light provides a warm light but produces less light output. It is commonly used in landscaping and hospitality applications by designers seeking to create a warm and inviting atmosphere.
-
5500K
Reliance Foundry 5500K lighting bollard emits light that features a slight blue tint. Also known as “cool white,” 5500k lights were an original mainstay in solar lighting. It is an extremely bright light that emits light that is comparable with typical mid-day sunlight. Its brightness makes it ideal for providing a high level of definition. It is commonly used in security applications.
Lighting Distribution
Lighting distribution refers to the direction and pattern in which light is dispersed from the lighting bollard. Lighting bollards generally dispense light in a condensed symmetrical (SYM, or Type V) pattern or a further, reaching yet narrower asymmetrical (ASM, Type III) pattern. The lighting distribution required for a project will be determined by the spacing of the lighting bollards and the design of the project. Reliance Foundry offers lighting options that deliver lighting distribution in both manners:
-
a) Asymmetrical Light Distribution (ASM, Type III)
ASM light distribution is sometimes referred to as “Bat-Wing” or “Forward Throw” distribution. Bollards equipped with the ASM light fixture deliver light in a long, irregular form. The elongated delivery of light makes the ASM ideal for lighting bollards that line pathways.
-
b) Symmetrical Light Distribution (SYM, Type V)
Lighting bollards fitted with SYM lighting fixtures deliver light in a condensed and even circle or square pattern. SYM Lights are commonly used to brighten contained areas and medians. The brightness delivered by SYM lights and the pattern in which it is delivered make it ideal for use in landscaping applications or in applications where a greater number of lighting bollards will be installed.
Lighting Program (Profile, Schedule)
Reliance Foundry offers lighting bollard programs that manage the use of the bollard’s solar light and allow it to perform to the specifications of almost every project. Integrated into the bollard’s housing, a proprietary micro-controller based EMS (“Energy Management System”) tracks a site’s solar patterns and adjusts automatically to deliver the appropriate level of light. Selecting a lighting program that allows a lighting bollard to dim or shut off during the night will help it provide consistent illumination during use. Reliance Foundry offers the option of 5 different lighting programs:
-
Program 1: The light turns on at dusk and, after 5 hours, reduces to providing 30% illumination. Using EMS technology, the light resumes full illumination 1 hour before sunrise.
-
Program 2: The light turns on at dusk and then off at sunrise.
-
Program 3: The light turns on at dusk and then switches off after 6 hours.
-
Program 4: The light turns on at dusk and, after 6 hours dims to 30% until sunrise.
-
Program 5: The light turns on at dusk and switches off after 5 hours. Using EMS technology, the light turns on 1 hour before sunrise.
Through the selection of the correct lighting options, lighting bollards can be optimized for use in any application. (Please note that options must be correctly identified at the point of order; options cannot be modified after initial set-up). Whether your project is safety oriented or serves aesthetic purposes, Reliance Foundry offers the right lighting bollard options to enhance your project.
