Bollard mounting methods

Reliance Foundry brings over 80 years of casting experience to the forefront in the design and manufacture of our Bollard covers. Our metal Bollards are used as stand-alone architectural site features, and can be installed as covers over steel security posts.

We offer unique Bollard models in steel, cast ductile iron, and light-weight aluminum; these are excellent alternatives to plastic, concrete, cement and wooden bollards.

Reliance Foundry has made every effort to provide Bollards that can be easily installed and maintained.

Our Bollards employ several distinct mounting methods:
  • Decorative Bollard Installations
    • Some bollards are intended purely for ornament. As standalone architectural or landscaping features, they can border, divide, or define a space. They can be accents.
    • Our Standard Bollard installation system is intended to mount our Bollards in place where no security (interior) pipe bollards are required.

  • Removable Bollard Installations
    • Our Removable Bollards are available for single-use, "emergency-access" installations.
    • In addition, our Standard Bollard Mounting system can be modified using our optional "Removable Mounting Kit" for quick removal of our many of our Bollard models.

  • Retractable, Telescopic and Collapsible Bollard Installations
    • Many sites, such as universities, shopping centers, public buildings, and convention centers have roadways, pathways, and open spaces from which it is desirable to prevent or deter vehicular traffic. However, it is usually imperative that authorized vehicles and particularly emergency vehicles be allowed ready access to these areas. Ordinarily, barriers such as chains or gates are erected, but there are numerous disadvantages to such solutions. Gates and chains impede pedestrian traffic and can pose a safety problem to pedestrians as well. Fixed bollards may be used to limit access by vehicles and allow pedestrians free access, but these may create an unacceptable barrier to emergency vehicles and an inconvenience to maintenance or other authorized vehicles.
    • Reliance Foundry's Collapsible, Retractable or Telescopic Bollards may be easily collapsed by emergency or authorized personnel, can be locked securely in an obstructing position to deter or prevent control vehicular access to pathways, and have self-contained locking mechanisms which are sturdy, reliable and protected from the elements

  • Security Pipe Bollard Installations
    • Our Security Bollard Mounting system is intended to set our Bollard Covers in place over top of new or existing steel pipe Bollards (steel posts).
    • Site security is a major concern in today's unpredictable world. Public and private buildings, government facilities, campuses and public parks are all susceptible to accidental or deliberate vehicle infringement. Security bollards placed at ingress points are an excellent way to guard against vehicle intrusion while still allowing pedestrian access.
    • Reliance Foundry's Bollard Covers provide an enhancement to the otherwise dull, steel, perimeter security Bollard — allowing a decorative form to take precedence over top of unattractive pipe barriers. Although our products are intended as decorative features only, when used in conjunction with a new steel security post or as a retrofit feature over an existing pipe bollard — customers are able to attain an aesthetic enhancement to their site security barriers.

General Installation Details

All our Bollards come with a strong, long-lasting Powder Coat finish. Click here for further details on our color, coating, and finish options. It is essential to protect this finish from damage during installation.
  • Keep all parts in their packaging until the exact moment of installation.
  • During installation, place unwrapped powder coated parts on packaging foam or other non-abrasive surface.
  • Do not place, slide or drag powder coated parts on concrete or other hard or abrasive surfaces – this will damage the finish causing rust to occur.
  • If abrasions or scratches occur during installation, it is important to use touch-up paint to repair any finish discontinuities (download our Bollard Care & Maintenance instructions).
Our metal Bollards can be quite heavy – depending on the model and material selected. Take all precautions to avoid injury from falling onto hands, feet, etc., and ensure proper resources are available for lifting of these Bollards into place and onto their mountings.

Where rows of Bollards are to be installed, use a chalk line to make sure all bollard bases are aligned correctly. This will provide a uniform look after completion of the bollard row.
