Reliance Foundry, a leading manufacturer of decorative metal bollards, is bringing architectural style to access control devices with its new decorative removable bollards. Bollards are posts used to deter traffic, prevent vehicular access, define roadways, and protect pedestrians or structures. Removable bollards have an advantage over permanent bollards because they can be easily removed to create an access path, when necessary, while still offering bollard protection when in place. Reliance’s new bollards can be easily and quickly removed and replaced by a single individual to provide emergency or occasional access.

“Security and traffic control design can no longer be an afterthought; it must be an integral part of most building and landscaping designs,” observes Reliance’s Vice President, Brad Done. “By offering removable bollards that integrate aesthetically with most architectural styles, we want to say to the design community that you can achieve function without sacrificing form.” His new Model R-7901 bollard features a sleek, contemporary look with a domed cap and three annular rings.

Reliance offers one of the industry’s largest selections of decorative metal bollards. The new R-7901 post mounts in a durable, heavy-duty permanent sleeve that can be installed in new or existing concrete. The sleeve sits flush and clean with the pavement and is self-covering, eliminating trip/fall hazard concerns while the bollard is removed. The receiver’s hinged cover also serves as a hasp so the bollard can be locked to prevent unauthorized removal of the bollard. Removable bollards are ideal for locations where access is needed only occasionally, and are significantly more affordable than mechanically operable or retractable bollards.

While bollards are generally used along the margins of roadways or waterfronts, Brad Done envisions Reliance’s new product will make it attractive to use bollards in exciting new ways. Done reports, “one architect we are working with wants to pre-install bollard receivers at regular intervals across a plaza he is designing. That way, the building owner can quickly place bollards wherever required, allowing the plaza to be reconfigured for a variety of uses such as festivals, parking, and flexible levels of security.” The bollards can be linked by chain to control pedestrians, as well.

The new bollards are available in stainless steel, as well as a spectrum of durable, hammer-textured, powder-coated finishes for the standard steel versions. The factory powder-coating process builds up a coating with very consistent coverage, which is then hardened by baking, making a durable finish with the toughness and abuse-resistance needed to endure exposure to the elements and to human and vehicular traffic.

Reliance Foundry is a leading manufacturer of decorative and architectural bollards and castings. Family-owned since 1927, Reliance has a tradition of quality and customer service.
